New Year...New You...

...or that's been the saying anyway. I don't know if it's because I frequent social media a lot more now than I used to but for some reason getting in shape, fitness and health, and nutrition seem to be a huge trend for the new year this time around. Of course, I'm falling prey to the fad although I must admit I got on my kick before 2013 ended. Anyone who knew me back when would say they would never imagine my little 98 lb self being the weight I am today...but oh Father Time!!! Wouldn't you know that a limited diet that teeters between not eating and eating whatever sounds good when I do eat would ruin my metabolism at this tender little age of 33...lol
I can vividly remember the warning Sinbad gave in his HBO special, Afros and Bellbottoms, back in the 90's about what happens to you weight-wise once you hit 30.... But did I listen.....nooooo! I thought I'd always be a skinny-mini.
So...I've had to make some adjustments. I frequent the gym now incorporating both weight training and cardio. I eat frequently throughout the day which is really hard for me to do. I incorporate more fruits and veggies in my diet. I drink water for a change. I've went from 0 to 6 glasses a day. I know that's not 8, but hey...I'm getting there.
Must admit, I'm getting a little discouraged because I just wanted to see some fast dramatic results. However I've resolved that if I could at least not gain anymore weight for now; I'm making progress. We'll see how I feel by my next post...
So with these thoughts in mind, I share some comic relief with you for my fitness craze I'm in. If you go to the gym, you're about to shed some tears so get ready...

Whew...wipe your eyes so you can read the rest of this post...lol

SUZY HOMEMAKER
Suzy will feature a healthy share of what I've been doing as well.  One easy way to incorporate fruits and veggies on the go is to blend them suckers up and drink em. So that's exactly what I do. This little darling has been mama's best friend for a few weeks now and it's surprisingly good. I was paying $7 for a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie and then I messed around and got smart enough to make my own at home. "My Little Darling" which is what I'm nick naming the drink has spinach, kale, pineapple, mango, banana, strawberry, and peaches in it. It has nonfat plain yogurt in it for creaminess and protein. I also add a little bit of honey to sweeten it a little and cut on some of that bitter from the greens. It is a lifesaver!! I was in a rush last week and did without it for a few days and I literally felt zonked!! I'm sold--fruits and veggies make a difference in energy level.

Hope it's not TMI for my beloved blog readers but Suzy Homemaker is also into remedies. I've been dealing with constipation-predominant IBS for years now. I've tried fiber supplements but they don't seem to do much. The occasional dose of milk of mag makes me nauscious and I hate that!! I've also tried a prescription med that's name slips my mind by that thing really made me feel sick all the time. So, I've just dealt with it. I went by GNC a few weeks ago and decided to give this Super Cleanse product a try. Looking at the ingredients it appears that the main claims to fame in it is cascara sagrada which is a stimulant laxative and it also has a probiotic in it. So, once I made sure there was no unexpected Baby Loring on the way;?i started taking it. It's basically 1-3 tablets twice a day and it promised "results" 2-3 times a day....and it delivered!! Such a happy camper I am now. However it warns against taking it more than 30 days continuously so I've only got about 2 and a half weeks before I'm on my own again for a while. Anyway...I hope this helps someone who sees this...it worked and still does :-)

HAIR HAVEN
I know you didn't think I wouldn't have something about hair on this post, did you? Only a few styles to show this time. First up was my try at doing my own Havana Twists and they came out ok. The only thing is that they continued to slip from the scalp so every morning I was going back in and re-doing 3 or 4 of them.

Next up is a lace-front unit that I recently got. It's absolutely beautiful but the lace doesn't fit snug againsty forehead. So, I'll never be able to pull it up out of my face. However, it's a nice warm option for these cold days...so I'll manage. Plus, I can't get my money back so I'm gonna wear the heck out of it!!

Last but not least, I've started taking the Hairfinity vitamins. I was a sucker to the advertising on FB. However there's nothing in them that I wouldn't need anyway as a daily nutritional supplement, so it's all good. If my hair really does get a little more healthy, I might start wearing my own hair out a little more. However, I couldn't honestly say that it would be the vitamins doing that or the changes in diet and water intake I've implemented.

PRISSY GIRL
One thing that's different about this year is that Miss Brook no longer finds it suitable for her Mommy to paint her nails at home...she now wants to have them painted at the mall each time....well, excuse me

OUR LITTLE CELEBRITY
Brook was recently chosen to be in Central AR Go Red For Women Survivor Gallery for 2014!! It consists of the stories and pictures of 10 women and girls who have survived various heart conditions and surgeries. Brook is the youngest this year.   This also stemmed our local newspaper wanting to feature her in their monthly health publication which was pretty cool too!!! You gotta know we're all beaming with pride over our little miracle!!

Well...I could go on and on and on even more than I already have, but I won't...we'll do it all again next time ;-)

Thanks for keeping up with me!!!
